I just started to experience problems with my head unit on 08 SE Ultra. It started to just cut off and I would turn off then back on while riding and not do it again. Just put a new MP3 player on it. I thought it may have been the poly batting we put in the fairing for the speakers. Took out, nothing. Still does it, now more often!! The new amp and front speakers are stand alone and the rear are off the stock BOOM audio set-up.
When it shuts down, it all goes, no sound, front r rear. Started to be just when it got hot, now, even when its cold. No matter!!!! usually after about 3 minutes, just unuf time to heat the internals up. So it has to be with the head unit. No matter FM, CD or MP3. Am thinking new head unit, little time. Leaving for TX in less then 3 weeks. Any ideas? I was looking at Sony CDXGT710 stereo from BikeTronics. BUT, do I need to buy the adapter cord from them to still be able to use my handle bar controls? Thanks.
Mine did the same thing. In the audio section they told me that a fairing brace broke and the outputs are fried. Mine started out like yours then wouldn't play at all eventually. Iron Cross can repair it and they are a forum sponsor
I was gonna mention iron cross as well but for the life of me couldnt remember the name so had to look it up. A lot of guys on this forum have nothin but good to say about them. If your hell bent on an aftermarket hu and not sure what to get hop on over to the audio section and hit up ultranutz that man knows his **** when it comes to audio.
Stock HK head units are famous for the circuit board cracking. Sounds like ya got one. Iron cross can fix it or better yet, ya can go with an aftermarket head unit. Lots of info in the audio section.

I thought of that. I ordered the Sony CDX-GT710 HD and BikeTronics BT1005X wiring harness last night and should be here in 3 days. I leave for TX in 11 days!!! But, I would not have faith putting something back on that has gave me so much headache and so hard to get to if needed.
Plus, I like the look of a new HU for I have never had that before on one of my scoots. I will match the screen colors to match my lighted speaker rings to boot!!! That and this new one will accept a USB where my old one would not. I will though send my old HU to IronCross and have them do their voodoo to it and give it to one of my club brothers who is having $$$ problems and not able to get a new tune box. Early christmas from a brother!!!
