He is looking to maintain reliability not have the hottest bike around. He just wants a good bump in torque without sacrificing reliability or his wallet.

There is no replacement for displacement. It is less stress to add CCs than to increase compression ratio; go as big as you can, but keep it mild inside. That with a good tune….. is about a reliable and you can get.. IMHO

Not really needed, I upgraded the cam bearing and also added woods lifters and fuel moto adjustable pushrods when I put some TW-555 cams in my 96". Later when I put the S&S 106 BB kit on and had the heads done I lost the stock oil pump and replaced it with the SE billet cam plate and high flow oil pump. Lost that one not long after because of my crank, from there I pulled the entire set up and put a 120R crate. Be aware if you want to play you have to pay, you'll see a lot of warnings about beefing up your bottom end but like most I had to learn the hard way. Many get by, but it's only a matter of time before you engine puts out more than your bottom end can handle!

Whatever ya do, lifters and cam bearings should be on your list.
Thanks. That's exactly what I'm going for. I good proven budget build.

Is a stock 96 the same as a 103 besides the jugs n piston?

Yes it is, but the same cams will perform differently in each motor.

No the 103 have standard automatic compression releases, I added that to my 106 with some take-off 103 heads that already had them from the factory.
I just bought and installed the harness and turned them on with my power vision. As far as the juggs I believe the 103 is the same as a 96"just with a bigger bore.

That depends on the year 103. I believe that started in 09 on the limited bikes. You don't need ACRs on a low compression 103 unless you have something like the 255 cams that give you a high cranking compression ratio. And the ACRs are easy enough to add to the 96 heads.

These are my 96 ported heads with ACRs installed:

hi,

and thats where the SE Stage4 Pro 103 kit comes into play for a 96 upgrade IMO, you get reasonable heads with ACR ability, 103 jugs and pistons, throttle body, cams plus other things etc

you dont have to twist the right hand if dont want to but you know its there when going 2up loaded or 1up

thanks
