Default motor questions...

Someone who knows more about this tell me if its a good way to go. I have a 10sg stock 96" what I want to do is put 103 jugs and pistons on it and upgrade to Andrews 57 cams and adj. Push rods, possibly the lifters and tappets. Is there anything else I should touch while I'm there? Or should I go a different route with this. All I'm after is a little more power. But I don't want to loose any dependability of a stockish bike. Thanks in advance.

If you're going to do all that, I'd go 107. I'd say I *increased* the reliability of my stock-ish bike by doing this - better cam bearing, better lifters, better pistons, better jugs (I went with the FM IC jugs vs bored stock), better valve springs (I opted to have the heads refreshed vs ported)

or stick some TW-222 cams in the stock 96 with a good tune and you just may be satisfied....or like the others said, go to the 107......it's just depends on how deep your pockets are....

I've looked at the fm107 kit. I like it. I just wasn't sure if I could do it cheaper than what they are selling the kit for. I don't want to dump a bunch into it just give it new life.

The FM 107 kit is a good build by pretty much all accounts. Putting SE255 cams in the 96 will wake it up. It's a good cheap upgrade. Going to the 103 jugs along with a cam upgrade will give you a nice bump if properly tuned. I went the 103 route because I got such a good deal on everything but I also had head work done which I am pretty sure is where I am making all my top end power, the cams give me the bottom end. The MotorCo 103 kit will give you a nice bump in torque and maintain reliability, and can be had pretty darn cheap if you look around. The FM 107 kit will give you more power and so far it seems reliable, cost is a bit more but you get more.

If you're going to do jugs & cams on your 96", its hard to beat the FM107 kit for value, performance and reliability.

My 2010 Ultra was a 96". I put the FM107 in my Ultra, its still the best money I've put in the bike. The FM107 kit was only a few hundred more that piecing together a kit with HD jugs & pistons and then finding cams, bearings, pushrods, lifters. When you consider the upgraded pistons and lifters used in the FM kit, it starts to be a pretty good value.

My 2012 RGC is a 103". I put the TW-222 cams in it. It's a great upgrade, but if that bike needed bigger jugs, I would have put in the FM107 kit. I may just go back later and put in the FM107 jugs & pistons just to see what the TW-222 cams do with a nice bump in compression.

Sorry if this sounds like a FM comercial but I've been completely happy with their parts and service. It's just that good. I don't think you'll find one person that says different that owns an FM107 kit.

Good luck.

That's the route I'm leaning towards. Not wanting anything radical just good power when I'm loaded/2 up. So with the 103 kit what else should I touch while I'm there?

Upgrade the cam bearings while you are in there. I don't know anything about the andrews 57H cam other than I have heard a lot of people mention it. Just make certain whatever cams you choose makes low end torque. It should turn on around 2500 RPMs for two up touring. Top end is not really a concern with your goals. You just want bottom end and midrange grunt. The 103 Stage II kit with cams will do that for you. The 255 cams are a bit quirky starting the motor in not a good way but they do perform well for touring. You can install compression releases to alleviate some of the starting issues with the 255s in the 103 but my and a lot of other peoples experience is they still are a PITA warm starting.

Hi,

Buy the HD stage4 103ci kit, sell the tuner or get buyback from dealer on the tuner, get the auto comp releases and harness

Thanks
