I think he pulled the derby cover to see if the tranny oil leaked in somehow. he also says they put a quart of tranny fluid in the tranny reservoir..............
I too was a bit confused about this issue. Like it was said, the 15K service doesn't involve tranny fluid and it would take one hellacious leak to run it dry into the primary though a bad seal. The tranny only holds 1 qt. Hmmmmmmmmmm There has got to be lots more to this story than a dealer screw up but many of the guys on here are quick to flame dealers for whatever. some complaints are ligit, others are not. Not sure which this one is yet.

I agree, the math doesn't quite add up here. One quart low = bone dry transmission. Running a hundred miles before hearing any problems? I'd be concerned about serious tranny problems, if the dealer really did it, the guy had better get it documented in case of future problems. And as Gunny stated above, no tranny fluid R & R at 15K.
15k service doesn't get either a primary or transmission fluid change (primary's at 10k, transmission's at 20k). The dipstick on the right side of the bike is for the transmission, the derby cover you took off on the left side of the bike is for the primary, and the two fluid reservoirs aren't connected.
Something is very much not right about this story.
He had all the oils replaced at the 15k service. His invoice annotated the use of 2qts of Formula +. According to the service Mgr they need to investigate the possibility the tranny oil leaked over to the primary. I personally cant see that happening but they spout all kinds of BS trying to justify not doing the job right. Dont I remember a thread concerning tranny oil leaking over into the primary in the past?

No premature flaming Gunny, there was supposed to be clean fluid in all three holes. The info I am reporting is all I've got. Fluid supposed to have been changed 100 miles ago. It wasn't checked after the service. Checked levels to investigate tranny noise and found none in there. Perhaps I'm not telling the story properly....I woulda figured the tranny woulda blew if it was run dry that long? Hell if I know.

Synthetic leaves a film that stays way longer than dino oils, but I'd still wonder what the transmission gears look like.
Nobody's hands on my bikes since I bought them (all used), and it was that way when I bought new in the past, too. If you've got the skills, it doesn't take many saved trips to a dealer to pay for things like the specialized tools for pulling clutches, good bearing pullers, jacks, hydraulic press, and even a decent tire changer like my Cycle Hill (cheaper line from NoMar). Commercial mechanics will do it faster, but I'll take nitpicking quality over speed any day.

I took mine in for the 1k service, just to get the dealer seal of approval on the new bike. I will be doing all my own oil changes from now on. They will see it for warranty work only.
