Mufflers
I currently run R/C mufflers. I am looking for mufflers that are more quiet but still have good performance. The bike is tuned with these mufflers. I really don't want to go back to stock. Momma is really complaining about the sound on long runs.
Yea, I know I should trade the ol, but it would be cheaper to do the exhaust
I am basically looking for a quiet performance muffler if such a animal exists.
Bike is a 08 ultra with stage 1 ac tuned and run on dyno with these pipes.
Thanks in advance for your time

Everything I read here pointed to the V&H Monster Rounds being one of the quietest performance mufflers. I wanted pipes that were loud enough to be heard by surrounding cars to make them aware of my presence, but quiet enough to be neighborhood friendly and for long trips. I also wanted a deep tone.
So I got them, and both wifey and I are both quite pleased.
My headpipe still has the cat, and I don't believe the 08 headpipes do, so yours would be a bit louder.

one of the highest rated pipes for flow/performance is the supertrapp supermeg.
screaming eagle sells a version of these called fatshots.
these mufflers are adjustable and can be about as loud or quiet as the owner wants- in minutes.
the sound levels are controlled with open or closed end caps
I have both versions of these- supermeg 2/1 on my FXR since 1990, supermegs on my 1995 model and the 09 runs the fatshots, the later 2 with stock no cat headers.
the rider above has cats in his header which make a huge difference.

I was after the same thing as the OP... I have a 06 with screaming eagle slip-on along with cams/AC, I wanted something quieter so I tried Full Boar slip on's with the 1.75" baffles from Jones Exhaust. Nice deep sound and not annoying cursing down the road. I also had this bike tuned but always seemed to be running on the rich especially on idle. Put these new pipes on and couldn't be happier, quieter with no decel popping and no pinging when running in hot temps. Prior to this install my fuel mileage always averaged right at 42 mpg and checked it last weekend running two up with normal 60 to 65 mph riding and got 46.1 mpg. I got these pipes on E-bay for $199 and free shipping, it was worth trying for that price. I still can't explain the increased mph and the fact that they are quieter, if was expecting the opposite.
very generally, a louder conventional* pipe will make better at high rpms...like 6000
but we tend to ride closer to 2500~3000 rpms 85% of the time.
*conventional would be a baffled chamber with packing and sized orfices at each end.
measure MPG over thousands of miles, not a tank or 2. you may simply be seeing the result of a winter/summer blend change which happens in many regions

The Screamin' Chicken mufflers tend to have a nice sound without being obnoxious. It seems that the V&H monster round, ovals etc are very similar. I run the Klock Werks SS's. Very mellow rumble on the highway and cruising around town (I can easily hear my stereo at 80), but they have a nice little bark to them when you crack em'. Sound opinions are so subjective though.
