Intermittent miss
I did have an incident this weekend where it wouldn't start and backfired like a gunshot. I found it to be the quick connect on the bottom of the fuel tank. Not real sure if it is getting stuck and causing the miss, or what, but can't imagine it would stick only for for a split second.
I just came from the dealer looking to get plug wires, but they had to order them. Since I had to order them anyway, I have the SE 10mm wires in red coming.
Hoping this is the cure but I am open to suggestions on other things to check.

The coughing, puffing, missing seems to be getting worse, more frequent. I checked for codes, and none are showing.
As stated above, can an exhaust gasket be my issue? That may be my next try if the wires don't do the trick. Also, my research shows that a crank sensor may be the culprit. Seeing that I am not showing any codes, would this be worth a try? Or am I wasting $?

I would think if the crank sensor was causing troubles, it would throw a code.

Also... I have heard from so many people that my problem is I'm too lean. Yes I am a little on the lean side, K&N filter, V&H slip ons, rest is bone stock. Been this way for 45k miles now, and never had a problem like this. I'm no expert, but I would have thought if it was too lean it would have reared it's ugly self long before now. Been told I need a tuner.... Sure a tuner would rid my somewhat lean condition, but I'm not sure it fixes the problem I have now. Spark plugs aren't showing that bad.... kinda whiteish/tan , and dry. I'm betting most all stock bikes run lean right out of the door, it's how they meet EPA standards.... just saying.

Plug wires finally came in, and it did not cure my issue. How do I go about checking the injector wires? I looked at them when I had my tank off to change my plugs, and they looked fine, but that's not saying much if the wire breaks inside the insulation. How can I tell if that is what's going on here?

Another source for problems of this sort is either the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) or a break in one of the flexible hoses in the tank causing a loss of fuel pressure. Note that '08 and later bikes don't have a TPS.
