Default Electrical/Ignition Problem Gremlin

I will try to explain this as best as possible.

2000 Electra Glide Standard -- 105,000 miles -- I replaced CPS about 10 to 15,000 miles ago

1. A couple of weeks ago, after I started the bike and started to ride, it wanted to die at low speed -- I thought at first it was because I possibly pulled the choke off to early -- this happened after I rode it and let it sit for a couple of hours.

2. No more problem -- then after about 10 miles of riding, I was coming up to the stop light at the end of the off ramp going at a slower speed since the light was red, but was going to change to green and just as I start to go round the corner, the bike dies/sputters and comes back on -- the headlight goes out and engine light comes on

3. About 1/4 mile further for another corner, same thing - about 1/4 mile more at another corner -- the same thing headlight goes out -- engine light comes on

4. So I get home and think -- maybe I have a loose connection at the battery -- tighten everything up.

5. The next morning -- I ride and have no problems -- I have probably ridden about 600 miles and no other malfunctions

6. Until tonight -- I let the bike sit all day -- got on to ride home and ran into roadwork where 2 lanes are going into one -- in just a short distance, it died/sputtered (engine light came on -- headlights went off) about 4 to 5 times (not sure how far I traveled - but less than a mile in slow traffic --

7. I thought maybe if I kept the engine speed up -- it would help -- well it did -only sputtered/died one more time and the check engine light came on and headlight went off

it seems like it possibly happens when I apply both front and rear brake (trying to reconstruct the events) since the check engine light comes on , I am thinking it might set a code -- how can I read it without an expensive tool

Anyone else have this happen?

the tip over switch bracket may be cracked/broken.

if so the switch flops around on the wires and can shut off the motor-

it is mounted to the inside of the ignition module, under right side cover

there was a recall on that covering your year.

could also be a loose battery cable, also check the ground strap from the inner primary to the frame

there is also a circuit breaker- which when tripped will reset itself, but usually after more than a few seconds- circuit breakers can trip early...they kinda get weak internally. maybe replace that

i think it'll take shaking the bike in the driveway to find the fault

Could be the fuel filter or a pinhole in the fuel line.

Not trying to be a smartass, but OP stated the headlight goes out. WTF does a fuel filter or line have to do with voltage supply?

I'd look into MKGuitar's suggestion and also clean the battery connections. If it functioned properly for a few hundred miles after you tightened them there may be corrosion on the contact surfaces.

As for retrieving the codes...

do a search here. There are many threads, even a few including code definitions.

also look behind the headlight for a broken wire.

You are being a smartass, and that's fine.

I read through it quickly and it didn't register that the light was going off independently of the bike quitting. That would mean that it's probably not a fuel issue.

Or they could be two independent problems and one problem *is* a fuel line pin hole.

OP, when this stalling happens, how much gas is in it?
