Need help with Progressive shocks on 99' Ultra.
I recently installed a set of Progressive 412 shocks withheavy duty springson my Ultra. I weigh at least 250.
Hated farting around with the air. Never could understand how you could get an acurate reading with the guage when you loose some of the small amount of air you have to begin with as you remove the threaded on air pump hose from the valve.
Yesterday I rode the bike with the new shocks with three different ladies on the back.
First, my daughter, the brand new tire hits the fender on bumps.
I cranked it up a couple of notches and it was much better. Nice ride.
Next a friend of my wife. This girl is probably less than 150, but, I'm not asking. She definately weighs more than my daughter. The tire hits the fender now on real hard frost dips.
Next a larger girl, with the collar on the shocks set to second hardest position and I still had to be careful.
The problem I have is that the previous shocks would bottom, but, not let the wheel touch the fender, and, my bike thus far has been, empty saddlebags and no tourpac.
I figure the wife is between the weight of the two women and the tourpac and gear will be at least 50 pounds more and I only have one more notch on the collar.
Does anyone know how long the stock shocks are in case I've got some that are too short by a half inch or an inch and how does a person go about changing to heavier than heavy duty shocks?
