Default Harmon Cardon in 2012 Problem

I did a search in the audio section and did not find what I was looking for. Maybe someone here has an idea on a problem that just started.

When playing through the speakers, switch in the middle position, the sound quits. Sound is okay through the headset if the switch is moved to the headset position which is to the top. When the switch is toggled back to the middle position or the bottom position, there will again be sound from the speakers which might last from a couple of minutes to 10 minutes or so, then the speakers go mute again. Toggle the switch and the speakers work again for a few minutes.

I am thinking a bad toggle switch, but am wondering if it is in the radio itself and the toggling just corrects the problem for a minute or so.

Most people think it's the switch. 99% of the time you have a broken circuit board in the radio. Call Iron Cross and ask for Tony.

That's the same symptom I had. Just wait awhile and it will get even more frequent. A $250 trip to Iron Cross Audio is the only fix.

You have a 2012, is your bike still under warranty? If so with the money we pay for these bikes I would take to the dealership and have them fix it. Just be sure they give you a new radio and not one that has been remanufactured.

Had the exact same problem, replaced the switch. Two days later it happened again and replaced the unit. When it happens again I'm not going with another HK unit, they're junk!

I don't consider mine junk as it went 7 years and 57,000 without a hiccup. When it finally broke I spent $250 to get it fixed.

Talked to Tony yesterday and he said it was a short of some kind in the processor. Toggling the switch just resets the processor for a few minutes.

Bike is out of warranty or it would already be in the shop for repairs.

man, just get an aftermarket headunit, you won't be disappointed. The options that are out there are very impressive.

Are there any after market head units that allow you to keep the intercom function of the stock unit? I wouldn't want to loose it.
