I would stick with a Gates brand belt. They make the Harley belts, they also supply the BDL and S&S belts. I tried a different brand belt (cheaper) it didn't last 500 miles. Do a forum search on other experiences.

Ya,going with the HD belt, just hoping the chrome plating wearing of the sprocket teeth ain't going to cause probs, getting advised by dealers to change it and bikers say to take a chance on it,other thing is,the 5 bolts that fasten the inner to the motor, replace or loctite?

John, do you mean 22 miles?! The front pulley is solid steel or iron although it still wears, the rear one is cast alloy with a coating. That coating over the years degrades, but it and the belt will get on fine together for a huge mileage, as they wear out in unison.

You haven't told us why you're replacing your belt? If it's broken then replacing the rear pulley if part worn is a good idea, as the two should give better service. If it really has done only 22 miles then don't!

That IS a bummer! Mind it's difficult to feel TOO sorry for a CVO owner......

The rear pulley is marginal on mileage IMHO, however as you are making a fresh start with your new toy it would be wise to fit a new one. It'll give you that extra confidence while practicing burn-outs.....

The chrome flaking off is definitely an issue. The dealer is giving you good advice. When chrome starts flaking off, the remaining chrome gets sharp edges and will definitely wear anything in contact with it.

If you can get a hold of a cheap "pocket microscope", look at the chrome remaining on the sprocket and you will see the edges on the remaining chrome.

Replace the pulley while it's apart. You REALLY don't want to do this job twice!
