We are headed west from springfield MO towards tulsa today and Dumas TX tomorrow. I have a fork seal leaking and we are on the first day of a 4k mile trip so I'd like to get it fixed. Anyone know an indy anywhere along the way? Harley wants 3 hrs labor for one seal. Hell if I had my tools I could replace both sliders in less than 2 hrs. Thanks in advance.
Also if I don't get it fixed, how dangerous is it once all the oil is out? All I'm seeing right now issome residue every couple hundred miles on fork leg and hwy bar
Well, it will most likely be bad once ALL the oil is out as it is in there for a purpose and it may get hot and wear internals out.
Be careful, it may get on your breaks or tire. Wrap a cloth and zip tie it if you can.
Good luck

I thought i had this issue once but the problem was too much steering head grease. In hot weather it would thin out and run down to the forks where the seal is. Also blew around on other parts down there and the front of the tank. Someone else figured it out for me and I just got rid of the excess grease and cleaned everything up. I was told this is a common issue and almost always misdiagnosed as a leaking fork seal. Worth looking into...best of luck with this and the trip.
Well if I'm not too late try Mikes Cycle in Carthage. He is a few miles off I44. Does all my work. 1-417-358-4943. Or Hideout HD is in Joplin, 50 yards from I44..Good luck.
