Default Air compressor

I am looking for a good air compressor for use in the garage and around the house. I am looking for something that can do a little bit of everything from inflation of tires to running some light weight air tools. I have checked Harbor Freight and was not too impressed by what I saw at the store. Planning on checking out Sears and some other hardware stores to see what is available.

Anyone have some recommendations for a good air compressor they use in their garage and around the house?

I have one from HF and have used it the last 15 years without any issues. Takes off my truck tires and powers many of air tools. An air compressor is basic, not much to them and not much difference between them except for HP and tank size. HP does not equate out to how much air and power it has, only how fast and high of pressure you can pump up your tank to. Most are pretty close to the same.

I have a 30 gallon Craftsman....It's a little small for my needs, but I've been using it for 10 years without any real problems.
Powers all of my air tools and raises my bike lift, the only thing it has trouble with is my 1" impact driver.

I have a Porter Cable Pancake compressors. Small enough so it doesn't take up a lot of space plus light enough that I can pick up and take where I need to use it. Use it on all of the tires, Nail Gun, Impact Wrench, etc.

I have a Husky from Home Depot. 30 gal upright with wheels. It was wired for 110 vac and I rewired it for 220 vac. 5.3 SCFM at 90 psi (whatever that means).

I have an air impact wrench that I've used with it to take the wheels off the tractor and I air up tires and blow swarf from the milling machine. I ran a line back to the mill and lathe and installed a regulator.

It's probably a little overkill for my needs but I don't have a shortage of air.

I have had a Craftsman for five years now. I choose it because I know I can run to any Sears and get parts if I need it. The brass drain valve failed after about 4 years, and they had a pile of new ones on the shelf. It was probablly 50 bucks more than the same size Harbor Freight compressor, but I think it was money well spent. Not to mention it came with an air hose AND a free air ratchet. And I of course waited till it was on sale.

I've had one of these at my house for several years and it has performed flawlessly.
It was long enough ago that it only cost me about $300.
