On my way home it seemed as if my bike was charging harder than normal. It seemed to spend a lot more time in the 14-15 range. Honestly I don't really remmeber what it read before. I am more in tune with it now because of this happening.
from what i understand, if its going over 14.5V you've got a regulator problem, its allowing more power to pass than it ought to be
Sorry I wasnt clear. With the new regulator it seems to be higher than I remembered before on the dash guage. It is fluctuating with RPMS, as it should. I may throw a meter on it to check.

and the headaches continue, just got off the phone with the dealership, despite dropping it off at 9am and being told they only had 4 other bikes to work on, they're now telling me the bike might not be ready until tomorrow
My bike has been at the dealer since last Thursday. I am not complaining as i work at a shop and understand it takes what it takes. I'd rather have it take a little longer and be done right than rushed through. A good service manager will under promise and over deliver.

You do realize the service manager is just a people person, somewhat like your stockbroker. There just to greet and cover for the mechanics who worked at Mickey D's last month. Does that make you fill better?

alot of dealerships are like that nowadays. car dealerships especially. they have a whole crew of 'service managers' who's entire job is to schmooze you over so the mechanics can work in peace. lol.
when i dropped the bike off, they said they had 4 already lined up for work, but they'd be able to get it done by the end of the day. apparently those 4 bikes are taking longer than expected to repair. Its incredibly frustrating to have to wait like this.

The benefit of alternators over old style generators is their ability to maintain a constant voltage over varying speeds and loads. You should see very little change in voltage from idle to cruising RPM. A healthy stator should put out enough voltage that the VR needs to regulate it down. I've owned 3 twin cam Harley's since 2002 and everyone put out approx. 14 volts at idle measured with a volt/ohm meter at the battery.
Well I called Harley and they issued a store credit of $217.72 for the cost of the regulator. Not perfect but better than eating the whole deal myself.
I had my 2012 FLHX VR replaced before the recall in early 2012. I started getting the same issues again last week. Took it to *** Harley Davidson in Rock Hill, SC. They initially told me since my bike was out of warrenty that it would cost me $325 total to replace. I mentioned that DWK had called Harley and they gave him a store credit of $217. Management got together and while I was just walking around shopping they came to me and said this apparently is still an issue with the VRs and would be glad to fix it for free if I would pay part of the labor.
Walked out only having the pay $50!!! LOVE *** HD!!!!!!
