Help Needed in Amarillo!!!
I was thinking about this very thing. I also own a BMW touring bike and did not use it on this trip because it needs new tires soon. Is this happened on the BMW I would probably be stranded right now. Harley's vast dealer network is definately a factor.
I live about two hours away from Amarillo in the OK panhandle. There's a dealership about 40 miles from me in Ks, but I went to Tripps to buy my SG. They have taken very good care of me since I bought it a year ago. Great people in there. The sales guy always remembers me when I come in too. I had a slow leak on my front tire that I couldn't figure out. They trailer'ed it down there for me and figured out there was a pin hole in the casting of the front wheel. Fixed under warranty. But I thought it was pretty damn cool that they towed it down there for me.
Glad it worked out. My experience my be interesting to those travelling. I just had a rear flat on another bike I own. I had both a Dyna Plug and a Stop N Go repair kit I never had used. The culprit was a 2" screw which I pulled out of the tire. The Dyna Plug (using a single plug) would not plug the hole. The Stop n Go did plug it just fine and my small air compressor filled it. I rode the repaired tire 60 - 70 mph w/ no problems.
I am going to get a new tire and also have a tire shop patch the old one internally for a back up.
This Stop N Go kit is now about $30 and mine was at least 10 years old. That and a pair of pliers or Leatherman and a portable compressor don't take up much space and you hope you will never need them.
