Valve lifter easy start?
I think my battery is on its way out (sluggish to start) , but before i buy a new one i was wondering if that "valve lifter/ compression release thing might be not working in the cylinder heads ?
Does this sound feasible and can you test it ?
Ps - 2.5 year old original battery on 103ci glide that has always been on the optimate charger.
Thanks all.

u will need a compression guage, remove spark plugs and insert compression guage in spark plug hole leave 2nd plug out ..turn bike over get the reading, with acr working im guessing you will be in the 140-150 range .
the compression releases engage when the starter button is pushed. u will have to remove your gas tank to get at the connection to unplug your acr - automatic compression release on that cylinder. turn bike over again and take reading with the acr unplugged , the reading on a stock 103 im guessing will be about 180-190 psi ,, then do the 2nd cylinder reading the same way. if your reading are not lower with the acr plugged in , then some thing may be wrong with them or the circuit that turns them on isnt working. they are wired into the fuel pump circuit, so if a fuse is blown the fuel pump wont work either.
pretty sure I dropped about 40 psi when I did my test.

i have been reading on the forum that some peoples batteries are only lasting 2-3 years (same as mine).
i have found a 385 ampm cold cranking power battery (drag specialisties) for Ł 135 (Uk) so might buy that. HD want Ł200+ for the same spec !
Thanks again.
Dekka sells AGM batteries and are half the price of an HD battery over here. Can you guys do Amazon? I just bought a Dekka 400 CCA AGM battery from BatteryMart.com for $138US.
Oh, to do a compression test, all you need to do is pull the fuse to the ACRs. No need for all of that tank removal, etc. You can do this, because since you will not be starting the engine, only spinning the starter itself... doesn't matter what else gets shut off in the process.
