Hi guy's ,My first post..I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new '07 RG,
but have reservations because of all the noise that I hear about "THE NOISE" in the '07 trannies.
I contacted Baker Transmissions and they claim to have a Fix Kit for $899.00.
I realize that we shouldn't have to pay $20,000 + for a bike then get a "Kit" to fix it,
however I love this bike and $899 seams reasonably
cheap if it completely eliminates the 5th gear noise and clutch pulse.
Any imput...ideas
Thanks M.
Picked up my new Ultra Saturday and rode all day.
Honestly, I could not distinguish any difference between 4th and 5th or 6th. I wear a FF Shoei helmet. The only observation was the 6th gear light was a bit slow coming on but I think that's to be expected.
I was apprehensive as well since following these posts since November but I am very pleased. Just be cautious on the break in..no over revin' and no luggin'. You will not be disappointed. My dealer also suggested heat cycling which I threw on the forum yesterday. Had a grin that lasted all day.
WHOLE lot cheaper to do some homework and figure what oils to use without voiding any warranty and they work to suppress most, if not, all unwanted "noise".
Send me the $900 bucks and I'll PM you a shortcut on which to use.
I am with you on spending $23K on a bike. Then spending $900 + time and labor to install this fix kit in which Harley should be sending out to owners for free along with the labor. Not even to mention the issue on heat from the bike! I could go on and on, on what Harley should do to improve their design, but why then I wouldn't need to make adjustments/improvements to my high $ bike and I could ride a little more and spend the extra on the high priced gas this bike guzzles! All in all, I love my Harley but agree it is very frustrating with things Harley doesn't stand behind.

I replied to your other post about heat cycling, what you don't realize is that by the time you get the bike after the setup and test riding is done, not to mention the "breakin" that the factory gives these bikes before they leave, it has been ridden quite a bit and the whole process is then like closing the barn door after the mule gets out. It's purpose is to start from a fresh unstarted engine to properly perform the heat cycling to any benefit.

BTW.......welcome to the forums!
Thanks.. My thinking was to eliminate the problem from the beginning...and enjoy the ride.
I guess I was also curious if anyone had actually done this kit...did it live up to Bakers claims!!
You never hada noisey 5th gear? I rented an '07 Ultra for a week recently and definitely noticed 5th sounded different/noisier than the other gears. I'm no expert since I only rode it for a week, but I could definitely hear it and it wasn't lugging because I'd have it in 5th up to 70. It wasn't anything that really botheredme orwould keep me from getting an '07 but it was there. I did notice the delay of the 6th speed light also. Not a biggie.
Congrats on the new bike.
