Another all or nothing. I am going with 18's on my RG. I am going to keep the stock rear rotor and pulled since I'd never see them nor would anyone elese for that matter so I'll save some pennies there.
I only have the 21" front on mine right now (18" rear wheel is on the way, Ihad to send it back because of bad hub or something).
But what I wanted to say is that you can't really see it, but I have had guys go "DAMN those rims look great" then they lean over to look at the rear and its the wack stock black rim[:@]. Now I got this dumb look [&:] on my face and no excuse ever works. "Uhhh, the rear rim is on the way..." Now it looks like "You (I)got a $20,000 bike that you (I)have at least another $7,000in it and you (I)half a$$ed on the wheels..." If you are gonna do it do it right. You can pass on the rear rotor and pulley but must have front/rear and matching front rotors.
Check out http://stores.ebay.com/MC-MOTORSPORTS-OUTLETthe owner worked me a deal on 2 sets of rims and rotors 21/18 for $2400.00 shipped. I ordered the Reaper and the Raven. Like I said the rear had a problem, I called they sent UPS to pick it up the nextday and are sending me a new one as soon asthey come back from the plater. The only problem is they only carry like 4-5 styles available in black or chromeandthe18's are 3.5and not the perferred 4.25. They have it in a 5.5 but a SG can't safely run it with out modifications.
My personal choice for my Street Glide was to do both front andrear rims, because you can DEFINITELY see the rear rim, even on the Street Glide. Just take a look at my sig pic below. The rear wheel iseasily visible even though I'm running stock length 12" rear shocks. I'd be kicking myself everytime I looked at the bike if I saw a chrome front rim and the ugly stocker in the back.
However, when it came to the rotors I did the front only because you can't see any of the rear rotor hub (the part that would be chromed) whatsoever. Just my .02.
Just got my new Weld wheels (Blade front;Eclipse rear) on today. Even though you can't see the rear with the bags on except for the outside edge under the bagsit just didn't seem aesthetically correct to keep the stock rim, rotor and pulley on the rear. PITA to clean blades on the rear so I opted for a solid wheel, rotor and pulley for a clean look and easy maintenance.
My sig pic is with the air purged from my Hi-Lo air shocks and you can see my rear wheel. To each his own I guess but IMHO 51Moe said it best.
Maybe another way to view it is it is like getting all dressed up to go out with your spouse or significant other and you are wearing a nice dress shirt, dress pants, sport coat perhaps and you put on your old dirty, grass cuttin' Addidas high top shoes that you've saved since high school (we all have them shoes and you know it ) and in your mind you are happening BUT when everyone else is looking at you they are thinking WTF....
Maybe the analogy is scewed a bit but you get the picture right?
