Default New Rims

Was thinking of putting new rims on my 07 street glide, guy at the store told me just to get a front rim for it, because the rear rim is hidden from the bags, and also its lower in the back. You know he got me thinking, he is right you cant see the back rim unless you get on your hands and knees. Any of you guys just change the front rim and rotor? A little feed back would be great! Havent ordered anything just yet, and if I just went with the front[sm=confused06.gif] it would save a lot of cash.

If you lace your own rims and use steel spokes you can do it yourself cheap have an ind. shop true them and put rubber on...
Just missed getting a pair of chrome revolver rims (new) off E bay for $500because of computer login problems....
On my bagger I have a magnesium mag. on the back (from e bay) and a 40 ss spoke steel rim on the front laced on the REAR hub....
I had chrome peeling on both rims and front hub. A local shop gave me a front rim whenI bought ss spokes from them...
I then powdercoated the hubs satin black and the rims fire engine red. SPOKED REAR RIMS ARE HARD TO CLEAN....

I almost did the same but I'm glad I didn't follow through with it; I didn't cheap out.I replaced the rear rim, f/r rotors and the pulley and I'm glad I did.Believe me you WILL see the rear stock rim while washing or detailing and it will drive you nutz wishin you had replaced them both.

If you can't replace everything don't do it at all. IMHO it looks cheap and cheezy when someone takes the shortcut by doing the front only.

FWIW.... it is just my $0.02

I think it depends on the size of front rim you are going to do. If it is an 18" front, I say wait until you can do both. The overall height is similar but the side wall height looks very different.

If it is a 21" front, no problem just doing it and leaving the rear alone. The overall height is different enough that it doesn't look odd.

Hope this makes sense, it is kind of hard to explain.

How did this work? Did you convert to a single disc front and cover up the pulley side with a hubcap?

Do you have a pic of your red rim on the bike. I think it sounds cool and would like to see it if you have one.

I am gonna do the same thing. I have the low profile shocks and lowering links on my RG. I am going with a 21" on the front and I am just going to have the lip of the rear rim polished. The plan is to put a fat bagger kit on the back end so it would be even more invisable with the bag extensions. I don't think it looks cheesy at all if the back end is lowered.

You have a beautiful bike but like he was saying you can't even see your rear wheel, rotors or pully. I know you know it's there but for us cheap bast*rds I think I'll go the cheaters way and save the money..

It was allor noth'n on my scoot...wheels, rotors, pully, mounting hardware, the whole shoot'n match. I guessyou couldalways had the rear down-the-road, but I'd bet you won't be satisfied with just doing the front.
