i use a pair of 1 size over dark navy blue work pants everyday to work and put them over my work shorts. works like a charm. sometimes in the summer when its 95 degrees out i just where the shorts home.
Anything that's bonded Gore Tex (Darien, etc) is going to be hot above about 80-85 degrees. Gore Tex and the other "magic fabrics" out there just don't breathe well when it gets hot. Some of them (Klim, for example) cut vents into them, but then you compromise waterproofness.
I got a lot of funny looks this past week, but I rode from MD to Baton Rouge to Eureka Springs and back home in a BMW Rallye 3 suit. It's got separate internal rain liners, so with Under Armour drawers and a shirt underneath, I was cooler than I would have been in jeans and a T-shirt. We came through light rain on the way out without the liners, and the damn thing air dries in about 10 minutes. We hit heavy rain for about 5 hours on the way home, and with the liners in, I was completely dry.
I won't travel on the bike without it. It was ridiculously expensive, but it works perfectly.
Picked up a pair of these, specifically for wearing over shorts. They are mesh, with armor, so you rather feel like your riding in shorts, very breezy. Nice selection of sized as well
I bought a Harley Road Warrior jacket and pants a few years ago. Water proof, has vents. Suit has traveled about 20,000 miles and has kept me dry and cooler than if I was wearing jeans and a tshirt like the first ride I went on....and no rainsuit taking up space in the saddlebags.
