Helmets are made very different and shaped different from model to model. Why? Because every head is shaped very different. So, you should go try on as many as you can to see what brand&model fit YOU the best. Taking advice from a forum is a great way to buy a $200 paper weight.

But, cheap helmets are usually heavy, bulky, noiseyand not very good at moving air inside.

Carbon Fiber is very brittle at colder temperatures. If you leave your helmet in the garage, expect to decrease it's life expectancy dramatically. Don't believe me, read the snell institute tests. The best advice here so far was "don't always believe the forum, you only end up with an expensive paperweight"! HJC's are the most popular helmet sold in the US, they are a mid-line helmet. I come across them as my main competitor often, ours are a higher quality but priced similar (without the MoCo "step") I'm close to signing a dealer in ChicagoSpike's neck-of-the-woods. I've posted my website many times, but until I hear from Terry about paid sponsorship, I'll leave it for PM's only. It's only fair to the other businesses on the forum.

Here's what I just bought. They are incredibly light and no 'mushroom head.' Exceptional customer service too!

I second this. Just bought one for my wife and when I saw it I had to buy one for myself

How in the world does any one buy a helmet online. I have to try on 3,4,5 of them before I select.

Arai has 3 different head contours in addition to various sizes, how do you try on a dot-com helmet? Do you measure circumference, forehead to back, temple to temple, cheek to cheek and mandible to mandible? Do you think someone on the other end will repeat those measures? Especially if the call center is outsourced offshore? You can't begin to imagine the BS I'm now going through with Home Depot Direct.com about returning a $49 lighted post cap! I could imagine a $400.00 helmet on clearance! See your local dealer, if they don't have what you want, see another. You know they have a more vested interest than a website, phoneline and toolshack somewhere in the middle of BFE!
