Ok, starting a new project. I have a 2006 Street Glide fuel injected. I am putting in an S&S 509C cams, quickie pushrods, lifters, HD Hybrid kit with new plate, hydraulic tensioners, oil pump, and Power Commander V EFI and Vance and Hines Chrome Pro Pipe.
First dumb questions is I can't get the Chrome Tappet covers off.....Yes the bolts are out and some serious blows from a dead blow hammer are not moving them...I don't want to damage them or the chrome if possible.
Ideas.....?
By the way, I have the Harley shop manual and there will be many more questions.
a soft cloth and channel locks to wiggle them a little...
I have the 509 gear drives in mine... with a Fueling cam plate/pump
bike scoots along nicely from 2500 to over 5K
no more worries about that stupid chain... but it is a nice mild grind... lost a little bottom end but once you come over 2500 it lights up...and I like the sound of gear drives...
why did you stay with chain drive... besides runout worries?

I stuck with chains due to runout, and I am hardly smart enough to do the job without worrying about anything else. I am hoping the 2 into 1 helps with the low end. With the intake close of 18 I was assuming they would come on sooner than 2500?
Leave a couple bolts in, not tight though. Then, as mentioned above knock them loose. Leaving a couple bolt in will ensure the don't fly across the room.In
Take a putty knife and a dead blow hammer. Gently tap the putty knife under the tapper cover. Once the gasket breaks loose you can twist it off by hand.
