Finally got around to decatting a head pipe that I bought from a fellow forum member.
- To "gut the cat" using the window method took about 2 hours, but it was not this first one that I have done, so no issues.
- Take off of the stock pipe off of my 11 SG took about 45 min.
- Install of the new decatted header and mufflers took about 60 min.
- To install the GD, MF, Son of a B-, Bastard hose clamps on the pipe covers took at least 6 more hours. Realistically, probably an additional 15 minutes. Those things were kicking my a$$.
End result: Little deeper, maybe an extra dB or 2.
On another note: I have a stock head pipe with covers for sale, $50. I can remove the cat for $125.
You just lost power and the tune is no longer correct. Better bet is to buy a pipe with no cat.
Plus, blatant advertizing is REALLY frowned upon here. Take your 106 post *** and sell stuff in the classifieds.
What a total *** you are .
I seen little wrong with the OP post and it is good info . Yes some of it could've been in the classifieds or not . But your post was uncalled for

He started with a stock bike, the tune was already no good. Removing the cat without changing anything else did little if anything at all to the tune. I see a lot more wrong with your post than op's.

Actually, decatting a bike, or ANY engine for that matter requires a re-tune. The back pressure change is so significant that it will cause issues. Maybe not in the short term...but definitely long term. Had he done just a de-cat pipe and left the stock mufflers alone, he would've been fine. But a de-catted head pipe AND different mufflers??? He's begging for issues. In reality, it would be safer to just add a tuner than to take the risk of not having a tuner. At least having one helps more than not....instead of proving who is right or wrong.

he bought a de-catted head pipe...took his exising mufflers...re-installed them on the de-catted pipe. good for him--he does not need a re-tune as he did nothing to intake system. wurk truk is way out of line here.
My bike is bone stock with the stock mufflers and even the stock Harley air filter. I understand the theory on back pressure and the possible lean condition that could occur when removing designed exhaust obstructions. I plan to watch my spark plugs for any signs of bad news.
In the event that there is something going on, I will make it a priority to get new mufflers, air cleaner and tuner to finish it out. Right now, everything I have read points to the little to no internal changes when only removing the cat.
Don't get mad at Wurk Truk. He is just upset that his sheep told him it needed some space.

Okay...I didnt see mention in your post that you re-used the stock mufflers. Then yea...like the others said, you will be perfectly fine. I would still get a tune though. That should come as an option on these bikes. Its amazing how lean they run from the factory and the tuner makes a hell of a difference in running and operating temps...even on a stock bike. Hell I did it on my stock bike with only 6 miles on it. Was just enough to ride it from the dealer to the house...4 miles exactly and it has had one every since...17k miles later. Good luck and happy riding.
