Bring a gun......or at least keep your head on a swivel. Like any big city, this place has its goods and bads, and the cops do their very best with limited resources (such as manpower). Once on Beale, don't go much further east than the New Daisy Theater.....it can get a bit dicey down there. Also, don't leave anything "removable" on your bike....even if you're parked in a well lit area, lock it up or take it with you. Go walk through Schwabs Deparment store. You can find anything in there from old voodoo remedies to diamond rings. If you like baseball, there is a great AAA baseball stadium just about 2 blocks from Beale (try the BBQ Nachos). If you're around the Peabody hotel around 5pm, go watch the march of the ducks in the lobby.....a tradition for over 100 years. Eat breakfast at The Arcade....it's where Elvis used to eat. It's on South Main. Above all else WATCH OUT FOR THE MEMPHIS DRIVERS!!! They are idiots. Period. I've lived here almost 20 years, and I've ridden in all the lower 48 (OK, I only rode across the Maine border and had my pic taken and came back), but these drivers win the prize for inattentiveness and stupidity. If you guys have any other questions about Memphis, PM me and I'll try to answer any questions you might have. Enjoy the ride!
Be very careful around Beale and lock your bike up TIGHT!!!!!! I would advise to stay in Bartlett or Millington and drive to Beale. I know being where the action is tempting but just some words of advice. Just a suggestion from a local!!!!
Often when I go to Memphis I stay in Southaven MS. Southern Thunder HD is just down the highway too.
I'm from Mississippi and this is where I stay as well when I go to Memphis, which is pretty regular. Usually at the corner Goodman Rd and I-55. There are plaenty of nice new hotels right in that area.
I got a reservation at a Best Western. I think I'll take the bags into the hotel. Plan on taking a taxi from there to Beale St.
Blues City has some live music we're going to try to check out.
We'll probably get out to Beale early (3 or 4PM), eat, drink a few brews and try to find some good music. Most likely be back at the hotel by 10 or 11.
