No doubt the last thing people want to see is another post about friggin' pipes, or more specifically, slip-ons. But I have a problem, and I'm hoping to find a solution. I've been running V&H X-pipes mated to a set of slip-ons that, despite the fact that they sound like crap, I kept because they did really well on the dyno. Being the reasonable, pragmatic dude that I am, I decided to compromise the sound in favor of having a bike that runs like a scalded dog.
So last week a friend took it for a spin. I heard them from the street perspective for the first time. Jezuzst. These things make the stock pipes sound good. Ef that, I'm getting something that sounds better to my un-pragmatic dude side.
So here's the problem. I live in Utah. I can't run down to Pipes-R-Us and have a listen. I almost have to buy my pipes online. So I'm looking for a vote from you tuners out there. I want the best balance between torque and noise (I think they should put Decibels as a line on the dyno charts). I'm not too picky about how loud they are, although something louder than a sewing machine would be nice.
If you could tell me which slip-ons you would choose, I'd be most grateful. I'll tally up the votes and hopefully get a winner. Right?
I am using supertrapps on my 3rd Harley.
The 2/1 on my FXR has been on there since 1990
I had a set on my '95 for 8 years ( once a bagger slip on was available) and kept them for the 09 when that bike sold.
I have also used the screaming eagle fatshots ( made by supertrapp).
these pipes are always in the top few positions in an exhaust shoot out.
they are tunable for torque vs HP
they are adjustable for sound
You should be able to get to a bike night or some kinda dealer event that'll have a bunch of bikes you can hear
We have a couple of Pals who have annoying sounding bikes- they get to ride at the rear. nobody wants to listen to that all day, none of us want to get pulled over with them for noise tickets
dragosbikeworks.com ,dragos has an H pipe that looks exactly like his true duals. Give Frank Dragos a call. He offers a 10 day return if you don't like the pipes send them back.(815) 765-1790
