Default Autotune?

I've got an 05 EG Classic with an intake, exhaust and cams with a stock 88 inch displacement. It's running a PC III. In 05 they didn't have O2 sensors, but my recent S&S duals have a bung for them. I've had a dyno tune and am ok with the results, but I think it's tuned too fat. I can smell raw gas when idling, and gas mileage is terrible at around 31mpg. I have no experience with autotune, but I know some aftermarket tuners have it. Anyone have experience adding O2 sensors and tuner?

I'm considering going to closed loop O2 sensors and tuning on my 05 Deluxe. My research indicates there are 2 or 3 ways to go.

First is to add the O2 sensors to your 05. The ECM is compatible so you can wire them in. Cost is minimal. Instructions are in the back of the TTS Mastertune Tuning Guide. It's available online at:

http://www.mastertune.net/downloads.htm

See Section 9. Appendix A. Then you can tune it with the TTS product or the Powervision. This will work with either tuner.

The second option is to use a Power Vision Tuner with The Autotune Pro add-on with wide band O2 sensors. Power Vision runs $400-600 depending where you buy it. Autotune Pro (AT-110) runs $320-420 again depending where you purchase.

Either way you need a PowerVision or TTS Mastertune tuner depending on which way you go.

There is also a third option available. The Thundermax tuner. It comes with Wide band O2 sensors. http://www.thunder-max.com/

It replaces the ECU and costs about $750-900.

T Max is the way to go...once and done. In the near future everything will be blue tooth, you will be able to have them tune on the fly. But in the meantime I would go the cheapest application for your circumstance.

Hmmm, Thundermax 309-460 (in my case) is $688 on Amazon

You shouldn't be smelling raw gas regardless of the tune or RPM. That's not normal. Most likely you've got a leak problem somewhere in the fuel supply system. It could also be a head gasket leak. But that's highly unlikely. If I were you I would get that checked out before doing anything about a tuner. Also if you had it dyno tuned are you sure you can improve on that via autotuning?

I'm not too confident with the guy who did the tuning. There's another local indie who has since gotten his own dyno who might improve on it. It's not a leak though, it's just too fat. Seriously, 31mpg?

Don't go wide band O2 sensors you'll be replacing them quite a bit and your not running a high hp motor so there is need for them at all. Remember rich is better then lean. With cams you can auto tune to a point but you'll still need to dyno it. And agreed if your smelling raw fuel you have some other issues going on.

How often is "quite a bit" by your definition? I've had t-max in my Heritage for about 5 years and still haven't needed to replace them. I have 4 buddies who also put a t-max in their bikes around the same time as me and none of them have had to replace them either.

That's a really good price, and for your '05 I think you would be very happy with the Thundermax. If you do make the purchase, be sure to check out the very good how-to videos up on youtube and also read some of the pointers/info in the Thundemax thread on this board.
