Default Need advice on fork oil types/ wt

I am changing out my slider to chrome ones. I am happy with the "stock" ride but am always looking for improvement. I was going to use Harley type E oil, not sure of the WT.

Now I hear about two different WT SE oil, Amsoil Shock Therapy and some Belray.

My question, is there a big different ?? Does the chrome sliders make any difference ???

Be Safe JIM

Amsoil Shock Therapy 10wt is perfect for the forks and some of the best suspension fluid you can buy; it is very popular in the off-road world.

I dont think the brand of oil is going to make a huge difference but the weight will affect the damping along with cooling and lubricating the system.

When I changed my fork oil, I went back with the Amsoil Shock Therapy Med#10. I have been very happy with it so far.

As to your question regarding the chromed sliders offering any performance change, the answer is no. They just look great and are much easier to clean and keep looking good compared to the soft aluminum stockers. I think they are a necessity for a clean looking front end especially when you go with new wheels.

Here's what my fork oil looked like when I drained it:

For this job I also have the special low-profile socket for the big nut on top of the legs that you have to remove. Also I have the ignition tool that aids in keeping the ignition aligned. You can get by without either, but they sure make the job go smoothly. O yea, you can get the small copper washers at some auto parts stores. Screw the HD shop, they want way too much for the washers...assuming they even have them in stock. I actually re-used my old washers with no problems. I did replace the big rubber washer under the fork cap nut. (probably didn't need to do that, just did it)

My oil looked like that after about 3500 miles when I did my Chrome lowers. I went with SE heavy and it was to rough. I recently swapped back to the regular and it was too soft. The solution was last week I added 1oz to each side and it really helped with the break dive. So long story short, I am running almost 12oz of stock oil (manual says 10.8 if memory serves me) and it is perfect.
