Help with pining - LHP octane boost
My bike usually doesn't make it west of the Mississippi and is tuned to run on 93 octane pump gas. This turned out to be a bit of an issue out west.
Starting in St. Louis, I found it hard to get 93 octane fuel that is commonly available in the mid West. The best fuel I could find was 91 octane, then in Texas that was hard to find. With the lower octane available and the mid West tune I had for 93 octane gas, I developed some mild preignition issues (pinging) under certain load conditions.
Lucas Octane Boost was recommended after a quick call to my engine builder, however this wasn't available to me. What I did find was LHP octane boost that was carried at most Harley dealers west of the Mississippi.
I can tell you, this stuff works and solved my pinging problem. I was skeptical as most of the octane boost stuff has usually been the equivalent of snake oil to me.
If you're in a pinch with some lower quality gas, this stuff helps.
