If you have not maintained or even looked at yours please do so. I read a story here about someone who crashed because his spring broke. After reading I got a few springs and changed out my old one.
Well my new spring lasted 5 months! Thankful I was going around a slow corner and felt something. Looked down to see my jiffy stand hitting the ground. I had a extra spring in my tour pack and changed it out. What turned out to be nothing but a 5 minute delay I hope helps someone who has not checked theirs.
Yep, my bike isn't even a year old and my spring went south. Had the wife on the back and the kickstand grabbed a hunk of asphalt lip last month. Almost dumped it going across a medium. I put a brand new spring on that same afternoon. These springs really do suck!
So, I should change my old spring that has lasted 15 years, to a new one that lasts 5 months? Do you own stock in the company that manufactures harley jiffy stand springs?

Have to agree with this.
Coming up on 4 years and 35,000 miles now, and I have never had an issue with the spring.
Sucks for sure for those that have had one fail, but the chances are really rather slim.
My 03's spring is stock, never had an issue but yes I do carry a brand new one in my tool roll. Bought it a couple years ago, think it was like 5.00 or so, just figured it was cheap insurance.
