I have a 14 street glide special. IPhone 5s on 7.1.1
I was getting the error message that the iPhone would sync to messages ( forgot the exact wording)
Here is the solution:
Delete Pairing and re-pair your phone
On your phone when it says connected click on the blue information icon circle to the right of "connected"
That will take you to the next page which starts with forget this device
Underneath that it will say show notifications. enable that notification button and the one under that says sync contacts.
THIS MAY HAVE TO BE DONE WHILE YOUR BIKE IS SAYING SYNCING MESSAGES
IF YOUR BIKE SAYS COULD NOT SYNC BEFORE ENABLING SHOW NOTIFICATIONS, YOU MAY HAVE TO START OVER
on my bike phone favorites, phone recents and all contacts have checkmarks next of them
At this point your bike should say it has sync messages and should take you to a message screen where you can read your messages but it will be blank at this time until gets a new message
After receiving a new message it read it out loud over the speakers and it was preceded by a beep that let me know I have a new message
I was working on this in my garage and my the dial was in the a/c position
