the twin cam tranny is completely separate from the motor ( as are all HD Big twins )

check that you have correct dipstick or even drain and refill tranny with correct amount of correct type fluid per your manual ( about a liter).

do check that the vent is clear- wasps often make a home in the tranny vent

Oh, you are right the oil pan is shared, but fluids shouldn't be able to mix...the tranny drains from a hole in the bottom of the tranny case, through a passage in the rightside of the oil pan, then to the drain plug.

I don't see how the fluids could mix unless the drain passage has been busted due to overtightening the drain plug ( or a busted tranny case)

you may have to drop the pan...

if you go to:

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....HOUSING-W/-PAN

click on motorcycle, then select model year, then model, select transmission housing with pan

you'll see

if I wanted to check this, I'd use compressed oil to pressurize the oil tank at the filler to about 25 psi - then watch/listen for air escaping

The primary vents to the tranny via the clutch pushrod threaded adjuster. You'll notice that there a "flat" on one side of the adjuster so that there's always avaiable venting if needed. Could you have engine gases blowing past the jackshaft seal thereby pressurizing the primary?

I put red primary oil in so it would stain the tranny oil and I would know if it was passing from the primary please keep the ideas coming sooner or later the problem will be solved
