Everyone telling him to just pull over, if your on a 2 lane road and there is a car in front of you why would you pull over, shyt you'll be doing that all day. Like some said I will tap my brakes and give them the back off hand. On the highway sure i'll pull over, but I travel in the right lane unless I'm passing people or just ripping.
I just pull over and let them go. Hell I'll pull over on the shoulder and let them go around me. Already lost that battle once and walked away with just road rash and a totaled bike.
Whether its inattention, talking on the cell phone, in a hurry, or just plain aggressive driving, what ever the reason they are on your butt, pick you battles carefully on a bike. I don't like it even a little bit, rode with a friend that carried a couple of rusty old lug nuts in his vest pocket to be deployed on cue, not that I condone that behavior but sometimes he said he just had to get their attention.
Never have that the issue just ride at the speed of traffic flow or just follow the sign says slower traffic keep right people hate slow drivers going slow in # 1 lane and I'm guilty of it. You lead you follow or get the hell out people's way.
I CCW in back in waist band. It gets real hot and I find that my shirt rides up from the wind when someone tailgates when Im over the posted limit. Once they notice the .40 they tend to back WAYYYY off....
In the last couple of years most motorists around here have gotten much better at maintaining space, often times hanging back way farther than necessary, but every now and then there's exceptions.
At least you're more in contol of a tailgating situation than someone left turning or pulling out in front of you from a side street.
There's a lot you can do to keep people off your six,it's not hard to spot aggressive drivers and adjust your timing so they're anywhere but behind you. When I do get stuck with a tailgater it seems most can take a hint and are cool with easing off. When I sense the driver's overly aggressive...clueless or both I used to get pi$$ed but now I slide over and let them go by.My wife really appreciates confrontation avoidance and always gives me a nice back rub for a minute or two
When the flow of traffic permits, I always run about 5 over the limit. If someone is so hot to get a ticket that they are riding my 6 very closely, I do what I can to let them get by so they can get that citation as soon as possible. The Bright *** Tail Light is a big help to get most of the tailgaters to back off.
Yesterday I road to a small town 10 miles north of my home . The state Highway runs past my home and is never very busy . Halfway to town a car come up behind me very close I am running 60 in a 55 . This guy about 30 years old followed me the next 5 miles to town . I stopped at a traffic light and this guy is 8 inches behind me at the light . So I pull into a gas station and so does he as I am gassing up he come over and said nice bike ? I ask him why he tailgated me for no reason .
He said he didn't think he did ???
I have found acellerating away does not work, after I get way ahead I'll slow down to speed limit....next thing BOOM they have caught up and are closer than the first time, at that point it's pull over.
I had an amazing experience in the area of a large state college, lots of roadwork, up to 30mph down to 3mph, as I went thru a light in the center of town, I was last vehicle 4 boys in a tuner pulled out behind me and I said oh boy here we go.
Much to my surprise there was no pushing me or crowding, when I pulled into a convenience store for a break and a drink, they actually pulled in behind me.
I think I may have surprised them walking by I thanked the driver for not tailgating, he said "My Ol' man rides, he taught me long ago to never tailgate a biker."
I taught my 3 boys the same thing amongst many others, thank you to another father for doing the same.
