I just paid the $40 bucks because cheap chinese plastic lowers don't deserve better!
......... you shelled out whatever it took to get one'a those 110th Kings..... & then cheaped out on the lowers ?
..... i repainted my bags this spring & the yellow pearl (PPG) was so expensive that i decided to paint the inner instead of tossing what was left over
...... payin' a bunch for pearls & 2 or 3 stage paint sucks, but they do look great
Paint has always been high, my friend had his Drag Bike done in Imrom and I had my old Shovelhead done in Imron also, it was sticker shock for me when I was quoted the price for paint, that was when you could buy a 5 gallon can of racing fuel for $25.00.

Got to respectively disagree with you there. Those Mutazu's aren't cheaping out. At least IMHO. I simply refused to pay what the MOCO wanted for their brand new, color matched, Anniversary lowers. I paid less for my spare "inclement weather" chevy truck, than those lowers cost! They just made good business sense.
Black is black is black. Not true. Blacks are not all the same.
Actually - it is - kind of....true black is black is black - the absence of all color - which means it's not a color at all, when talking about the light spectrum.
But paint has pigment. And since it has pigment, it has color & isn't really black. So black isn't black isn't black.
I bought a quart, I'm hoping that's all he will need!
A quart is more than enough. You will be able to paint both bags with half of that (ask me how I know). I spray 3 coats of vivid black on my bags and used a hair less than 1/2 a quart
I've used my auto body paint shop to match few different paints for my bikes over the years, never could tell the difference and on my current bikes both have some painted parts by that shop in black pearl, deep cobalt blue and white gold pearl and some pinstripe exact match as HD factory paint but lot cheaper.
I did some bodywork and painted a few pieces on my new streetglide and wound up buying my paint from colorite to get the match I was looking for. I work for a very large body shop that buys a huge amount of paint and supplies a month.($100000) and after 2 weeks of both our suppliers try to match it and our own paint mixer using the shops paint camera we found out that the pearls Harley uses are not released to aftermarket suppliers. We could get close but the side tint or flop would be off. I know the Harley paint seems high but its about the same as colorite and they will match by spraying a test panel and if you have a 3 stage adjusting the number of pearl coats to match before clearing. The solid colors and non pearls you can probably get away with aftermarket paint but save yourself the trouble if you have a 3 stage with pearls and buy the Harley or colorite paint. Good luck
That's what I finally did........ordered from Colorite (via the web). Talked to them and they get the code directly from Harley so they say it will be a perfect match...plus they fed ex so I'll have the paint Friday morning.
I had a hell of a time getting Flame Blue Pearl a few years back to do my inner fairing.
My bud that worked at a body shop had everything in the shop to mix it,except for the pearl. His suppliers could get the pearl, but did not stock it.If I remember correctly,it was like $700 for a couple ounces or something crazy like that.
We ended up calling a local custom painter that had some Flame Blue leftover from a previous job.He told me he never uses HD paint. He gets his paint mixed by a local supplier.Paid $50 for 1/2 qt.
Now fast foward a year;I needed more paint to get my trendy extended bags done.Called the place the custom painter uses, and it ended up being $300 a qt.
The local PPG paint dealer here has consistently nailed the color match for me. I bring in a sample to be matched, they bundle the paint, reducers, hardeners, degreasers, mixing supplies, etc. I do the prep & paint myself. Never been disappointed with the results yet.
