Got some 3 1/2-4" extended saddle bags last week (Drag Specialties) and dropped them off at my painter. I told him the color (Midnight Pearl) and went out of town for the week. Got back expecting to see finished bags. Bags hadn't even been started He said he was afraid to spend that kind of money without me giving the thumbs up. How much could it possible be.......to my surprise $199.00 plus shipping per quart. Holy cow......I'll have as much in the painting as I will the bags. Might be cheaper to change the color of the whole bike.....LOL
My buddy has midnight blue pearl...another buddy has some kind of blue pearl...I have ember red sunglow.............yep, we all bought the Harley paint. My painter was willing to match it but he gave me a disclaimer. That disclaimer caused me to buy the HD paint. I have some helmets painted by him that he matched...they are extremely close---most think they are exactly the same.......but they're mine....so I can see the difference. So when I had him paint my bags and fender...I spent the $ on HD paint.
Also...he did ask if I wanted to just change the color of the entire paint to something that can be easily matched by any painter. I told him no...........he does the painting for HD dealership on the side and has access to nearly all the paints except the 2013 3 stage paints. They'll be released one day.
I am painting my new lowers. No way I was paying Harleys prices. Any, and I mean any reputable paint supply shop had high tech digital anaylizers that will scan one of your existing painted parts and give you the formula. Then they can mix up any brand paint from there in house $40 a quart stuff, to the high end Sikkens or Glasorit. Now, if you don't mind the extra cost or feel the factory paint pack is better, then yeah, your going to pay big. I just paid the $40 bucks because cheap chinese plastic lowers don't deserve better!

Same here, that's why I bought it....the price difference wasn't worth not matching because the bags are a large visual part of the bike, if they don't match it will show.
Yea, I'm thinking the only HD color that is easy/cheap to get is Vivid Black......LOL

He touched up my Z4 (lower plastic air dam) and it wasn't that expensive so I was shocked when he told me that cost.
