primary leak
07 FLHX
noticed a small leak about the size of a quarter forming under the bolt behind the drain plug only after the bike got nice and warm (after a ride)
Local mechanic changed the large outer gasket, replaced o ring on plug and here I am with
that **** still leaking after picking it up this afternoon.
Where do I look next? The bike does have a chrome inner primary which he said the surface looked wavy but I dont know what that meant. I guess the surface to mount the gasket is what he was talking about. He used some rtv on both
sides of the new gasket I think.
Any thought on where to look next is appreciated

There is something wrong if you need a sealant, that's a poor bandaid. I always have used cometic gaskets an seals. If he thought a part looked "wavy" he should have checked to make sure it wasn't. You might want to have your machine repaired elsewhere. Btw, since you'll probably be doing the inner primary, change out the front pulley to a 31 toother. I'd also replace the ip bearing and the clutch basket bearing.
That sucks and I'm sure it isn't what you wanted to hear but Dave and Bob are right. Unless you can find an obvious issue with the gasket (nick or tear) or a gap left where the wrench stopped his bead of RTV you're going to need to pull the inner and outer and see which one wasn't machined true and replace it. We'll assume you've made sure all the primary bolts are torqued to spec. If it's only leaking when warm it could be leaking someplace forward of where it's accumulating and running to the low spot on the back.
Had the same. Took we some while to get to the root cause. In the end it was the shifter seal. There are many topics written on this board to give you more insight on this problem. Many owners with the same milage do have this problem. One advise, replace every seal once the prijmary is off. Better safe...
I had the countershaf seal leaking on my 1999. i pulled the out cover, then pulled the inner cover and replaced all seals and gaskets, then filled it to the recommended amount and making sure it just got to the bottom of the clutch and no more leaks. The oil always runs to that bolt when leaned over on the jiffy stand which makes troubleshooting a chore. i used a center stand and eventually a jack to check mine...
Tranny main shaft. It's almost never the primary. Better pull the tranny and check the bearings as when the bearings go bad they cause the main shaft seal to go out. Happened on two of my bikes. Popped a new seal in one without checking the bearings and had to tear it down again and replace the bearings. Both bikes this happened around 50k miles.

Hopefully it's the same problem I had. I to have an 07 and it wound up being my derby cover. Holes on the inside the cover became mushroomed not allowing for a good seal. Take derby cover off and make sure it's flat at the holes where it meets up with the primary. That was my problem.
Agree with Hogpro. Jack the bike up and degrease and clean the bottom spotless. Start the bike up and shine a flashlight up under it while its hot (think safety) I used a fan on the motor. It was the transmission and rear shifter seal. Replaced all the seals, bearings and changed to hydraulic tensioner. 2003 electra glide. 62,000 kms. The oil tends to run down and move all over the place if you ride it to heat it up and makes it difficult to find the leak exactly.
