Another nice thing about the Rk is the resale is really good. i had my 1999 for a long time and loved it but rented a bike in Phoenix to ride up the the Grand Canyon...a 13 rk custom....so we promptly traded the ol bike in on a new 13 last year at the end of the model year. My wife prefers the classic to any other harley made so we simply got another black and chrome classic, added the leather tour pack and also the detachable sissy bar wich made for 2 additional mounts. i added rear crash bar bags from amazon, wired in a charger for the phone and headset radios and ran wire to the crash bars bags to keep the handlebar clean. The windshield and bags have easy removal for quick clean up. Simplistic speedo with 6 th gear indicator...Love it for touring. we have 10,000 toruing miles in 14 months riding double. My wife does prefer the hammock seat i bought off craiglist as well...
The classic has spokes and tubed tires...the standard rk and customs usually have mag wheels, fyi...
I've owned 3 ultra's, 1 SG, 3 RK's and 1RG over many years. I usually keep 2 bikes at a time and put good amount of miles on them every year. While I've enjoyed all of them, my 2 favorite bikes have been the RG and the RK. If I could only keep one bike, it would be my road glide. My second bike for the past 12 years has always been a road king.
Why don't you rent a RK from one of the Phoenix dealers for 3 days. Then you will see for yourself if you like it and not have to ask other people if you will like it.
The 2011 Road King Classic had the 103 cubic inch motor, ABS and security system standard. The Road King Standard didn't get the 103 until 2012 and ABS and security remained options until 2014, I think. (So, if you like leather bags, like I do, the 2011 RKC may represent your best deal if you want the 103 since you can get it in an earlier model year.) Get a 2009 or later King to get the redesigned frame with essentially eliminated the "bagger wobble" problem that plagued the earlier frame. (Despite what some claim here on the forum.)
I've put 35,000 trouble free miles on my 2011 RKC and have not heard of any problems with that model year generally.
2014 RK and love it , you won't regret it. Like stated previously get 09+ . The street glide and road glide have 12" shocks the rest are 13".
Good luck with your search and welcome to the forums.

I had an 09 Rk. Recently bought a 14, hands down difference in the two. Many improvements in 5 years!!
