Tourmaster offers some great affordable one also. Been using one on my FB for a few years.

The Saddleman is designed so that you can lean on it, even if it's not full. You will have to carry your backrest in the bag because it does not look like you can use it and the bag both. But if you have the bag, you don't need the backrest either....except for maybe short rides during the day if you are returning to a base camp in the evening. So just pack your HD backrest with the rest of your stuff and you have the best of both worlds.

use the HD bag by SAC (along with the tourpak rack bag). waterproof and lean back on it as a backrest. Downside, if you have rear speakers, the bag can damage the speaker grills - my buddy with an Ultra has same bag and has had to replace the grills after every trip. not sure if HD still sells the bags by SAC.

I am not sure which bike your ride. If you have rear speakers keep in mind most of the bags will sit on top of the speakers and could break the grills.

The saddleman and Kuykurky (sp?) both make a bag for the rear seat that is huge but you need a tour pak for it to work. Neither are waterproof and both will sit on the speakers.

If you have speakers you need a bag no wider than 17" and about 11-12" is the depth of the pillon so your back can rest on it. I found one that work good on the Motocentric website. I ordered a Tourmaster, and a Tbag.

Depending on how often you use it, you can go to Target and get a carry on bag also and set it on the passenger seat, then a large lawn garbage bag to cover it from rain. I would just find one you can take the wheels off so they don't leave an impression or scuff or tear in the pillion. They are deep enough that when stuffed you could lean against it. If not strap a pillow to it for additional depth.

The motocentric bag was cheaper, much much better quality, lifetime warranty and just misses the speakers if that is a concern. Not sure if it will be big enough though.

I bought it from Motorcycle Superstore and it is about $50.00 cheaper than from their site.

HD bags look very similar to the Tourmaster line to me. They seem to be good quality, and if they had one in the size I needed I would have used them.

Look for a bag called the Tombstone , by Kuryakyn. It is made to be a backrest, but it is not a really large bag. Just another option as you are looking around.

Curious, I was looking at the Kuryakyn ultimate tour and daily tour. Mainly for 2up but it shows that it can be used as a back rest in single rider. Does anyone have experience with these?

I used a big Kury ultra tour bag on the seat during my recent trip. It was nice having the four side pockets. The bag was really comfortable to lean on, but it pushed me a little too forward. If I took the pad off my backrest it would have been perfect. Lesson learned for next time...
