Broken Shifter Shaft
It seems last Saturday was not my day as after stomping it into first my shifter went limp!
After further investigation I was in 1st gear but had to pull the access plate on the top of tranny to see that as I moved my shift linkage the "Pawl" was not moving hence the shaft is loose from the pawl or broken most likely at the 90 Degree section.
I was able to get it into 4th gear and limp home so I'm in the process of ordering all the parts and tools I will need. Looks like I will need a long deep well 1 7/8" socket as well as a bearing puller to pull the gear sets through the trap door.
I have already ordered a clymer touring manual and unless I miss my guess the shiter arm assembly WONT be replaceable with the gear sets in the case?
This will be the first time I had to wrench on the bike since I bought it a year ago other that fluid changes. However I am a Apartment service tech (hvac ect) and have worked on Jap bikes since 15 years old, as well as my 74 vette and many other vehicles and other various "Machines" that break.
Any info or insight into my beloved Electra's problem will be well appreciated I think she wanted me to get to know her better! I welcome her challenge....Thanks for the warm welcomes to your community!
