yes, you are lucky to be alive.

yes, you should quit riding.

yes, i am glad you live a long ways from me, so the chances of us "running into" each other are remote.

I call bull ****!! A truck tire grinding into my saddle bag! A truck changing lanes would not have ground into his saddle bag if it bumped him. I look back and a truck that I couldn't hear or feel is grinding into my saddle bag all at speed. No flipping way!!

One of my personal safety rules is to accelerate passed 18-wheelers and large trucks or create a safe distance behind them. Hell, most times, it applies to any vehicle. Also, just like the sticker says, "If you can't see me I can't see you." If I find myself in a position due to traffic and I can't accelerate out, I place myself in his side mirror field of vision and look at him/her until I'm recognized. I know, sometimes, traffic or condition are not manageable, and you just become one of the crowd.

I have been startled before, thinking, where'd that vehicle come from! I shake my head and swear to apply better situational awareness, which of course, I believe is constant, but it still happened.

OP, I'd chalk it to a lesson learned with minimal cost, learn from it, and move on.

Since I'm one of those guys, you know, the ATGATT type, good lighting on the bike, white helmet, and Hi Viz jacket or vest over jacket.

If you didn't realize a truck was coming into you lane until he hit the saddle bag, it maybe time to give up riding.
