Glad you're ok bro!!! Unfortunatley that's some of the hazards we have to face being on 2 wheels!!! I work for FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation), I see a lot of stuff on the road I work on but, you can't let it get to you!!
Add me to the list of mystified. I can't stand the noise of car tires coming up on me let alone a semi truck. There has to be more to this than has been explained.
I would straight up, 100% sh*t my pants if I looked to the left and saw nothing but Peterbuilt devouring my bike.
Unless OP chimes in to defend/clarify, but until there's more to the story, don't be so quick to judge...we don't know all the aspects/factors, other than initial post. Give them time for rebuttal...
Glad you're OK, but maybe you should quit riding if you can let a big rig sneak up on you and hit your saddlebag. I can't imagine how that is even possible.
I can't dog the OP on not hearing it. I ride I-5 through Seattle every day and if it's bumper to bumper at 70 mph you can't hear anything but a roar. You can actually discern noises better with foam earplugs in.
One other small problem . We now have people driving big trucks on the same roads we use every day that do not speak/read English . We see more and more drivers from mexico coming into factories that have zero respect for our laws . This is the new world we live in .

good point, they all sound like they are going to run you over. you just don t expect them to actually do it,
Ok! I see lots of question marks here. Let me see if I can add more detail to my story.
Yes! I was distracted.
I just got a new batwing fairing installed. So my attention was on that fairing. I was trying to figured out where the sweet spot would be. When this thing happened, I had it set up in the position to where it was noisy and lots of wind buffeting. The wind buffeting was so severe that my helmet was like getting pounded by the wind. This would be my third run on the freeway. First and second trials were ok but still noisy. Also, I was in the weaving traffic. I was getting on the freeway and he was getting off. He told the cop I was in his blind spot. So all these things played a role as to what happened.
Prior to this incident, I had several closed calls. A cager would change lane right in front of me. On occasion, I had to slam on my brakes. So I am aware of the risks. I also attended state sponsored motorcycle riding class to get my endorsement. I had accumulated 15K miles on my dyna prior to my current roadking classic. So far I have 2K miles into it.
Hope this will clarify all the confusions and learned a lesson from me.
