I hate to beat a dead horse, but... This is why the 6 gallon fuel tank was such an under appreciated innovation with the HD touring family. That 20% increase in fuel capacity really reduced my stress on some of those long desolate highways out here in the west. The fact that this is almost NEVER discussed when speaking of the new Indian chief line is beyond me... FIVE gallons?? REALLY, Polaris??!!

I believe that in 150-180 miles on the trip, I fuel up.

No need in taking chances, are there?

I'm pretty confident that if the remaining miles says I have more than 20 miles to go I am fine.. The couple of times I've tested it down to where it says 'Lo' I have still had a little less than a half gallon left. Usually though if it says I am down to 40-50 miles then I start planning on stopping. The gas gauge usually gets near E though when I have about 1.5 gallons left.. Just got to figure out your bike.

I always reset the trip meter when I fill up and stop after about 200 miles. That being said I have to say my distance to empty readout has been extremely accurate. I'm getting about 42-43 mpg and my warning comes on when it says I have 46 miles to empty.

I've never had a gauge or meter that gave me enough confidence to pass a last chance for gas for next 50 miles sign. I think the gauges are just shiny bling to amuse us like monkeys.
