Default Input desired - Zumo 665LM or XM Module

My head is spinning and need some input on which to buy. I really want Sirius on my bike!! Here's the back story:

THE GOAL IS TO HAVE SIRIUS - GPS Is a bonus.

Birthday was this week and the wife wanted me to just buy something for my Ultra Classic. I had my eyes on the XM Module for the past few months. I use the hell out of Sirius in my studio and car. I found a few used ones and would need to buy the harness which got me to thinking about GPS in the future. Which harness to buy if I wanted to add the NIM cable in the future. Then a friend told me the 665LM has XM on it so I could kill two birds with one stone. Cool! But.... I've had several Garmin's in the past and they all died prematurely. My wife uses a Garmin 910 (watch) for her Ironman training and she's on her FIFTH unit now. They keep going dead. I will say Garmin support is awesome. If you look for reviews on the 665 there are tons of people having problems. I do know that people leave only bad reviews, hardly anyone will leave a praise on a product.

So I stopped by the stealer yesterday and with the 665LM, NIM and fairing mount I'm looking at about $995 bucks. And I just don't trust Garmin gear enough to buy used. I want warranty so they will replace it.

The other option is for me to pick up a used (or new) XM Module which would give me what I immediately want and use my iPhone with Google maps for nav. A much cheaper route but kind of jerry-rigged.

I have no problem finding my way around and can look at a map and go. I'm still kinda old school in that sense.

Is the Garmin 665LM that unreliable. Is it really worth the $950 bucks my stealer is saying it will cost me. (I would buy from Kutter to save some $$) Is it smarter to just buy the XM module and use my phone?

I went with the XM module because I didn't want to have to deal with removing and installing the Zumo just to have XM on my bike.

BTW...if you think the dealership is such a ripoff (you refer to them as a stealer). Why go there? Why buy a Harley?

Point taken but I rarely do go there. Just doing research and it's amazing how much more they charge than online locations.

I have had both and the built in sirius xm is better, hand controls completely integrated with bike. Nim's are a little quirky but function ok most of time, mine would hang on sometimes before returning to music after a voice command and volume is not as good as built in unit. Mike

I have the 665 on my 11 roadking and while the GPS is great (especially the weather feature) and easy to use and all that ...The XM not so good, maybe it is just the one I have but mine would forever loose the signal, I tried moving the hockey puck looking ant. to different places on the bike but it did not help..I finally gave up and turned that feature off but kept the weather feature, I never did turn on the traffic feature because it is mostly only good for the city and I don't use the GPS in the city much....

If you're going with the GPS, look into the newer Garmin Zumo 590LM. Has bigger screen, much faster processor, better map and additional features not found on the 665, and it's NOT $950.

Garmin branded units will not work with the Harley N.I.M. only roadtech units will. Mike

I had no idea about that!!! Thx

Thanks for the input guys. The 590 looks nice but also very pricey. Might keep an eye out for that to drop.

I have an xm module on the way. Will keep researching zumo without xm.

I have the listen anywhere plan (or whatever it's called). One of the benefits is listening on a PC or a smartphone. I have a good data plan so I ran a jack from the phone to aux input. I have a handle bar mount.
