Default Battery issue?

Thru my leg over the 12' RG this morning...pressed the start....click...click...clck. Hmmmmm I get my volt meter...it shows 13.01 volts static...press the start... 9.10v...so I charge it over 4 hours , 2 amp charger until full charge...try it again. 13.47v static.... 10v pressing the start button. Click...click...click...never had a Harley battery go out in under 3 years. But it appears it has....unless starter has failed? Any insight?

Notice it's a 2012, did you have the VR replaced under the recall previously? Did you check the cables for tightness yet?

I thnk your battery is pooched.

charge overnight, load test it at autozone.

many of us use the deka/ big krank.

about $100, mine came from batterymart thru amazon

while a bad VR can kill a battery...a duff battery can also kill a VR and stator.

as can a bad cable

a good charged battery is crucial to all charging system checks

You can enter your VIN on the HD website and it will tell you if your bike is part of the recall. I had mine changed at my 1000 mile service.

oh..are you touring right now?

I saw your sonoita post-

if so a bad vr may have overcharged your battery and be killing it- a conventional type may need distilled water added.

if you make it to PHX and have trouble, pm me.
I got some tools- if you need to have a battery shipped you can ship here...or do a swap with me.
my deka battery is only a few months old.

Just replaced mine with a Yausa 500 cca battery. Starts up much quicker, even a quick restart when hot. Peace of mind was worth it.

Put a AGM battery in it...load test showed battery was gone.....wow those little dudes are expensive! Amazing the cost increase in 3 years...but when you live in a remote location and have plans for the coming week...you have to suck it up!! Lol
