Point to consider:
What if the new battery konks out?
Autozone battery listed above, local return, 90 day warranty.
Advance Auto battery listed above, local return, 1 year warranty.
Mail/Internet order battery - if they are not local - wait, (Shipping?) warranties vary...
All above are Deka, AGM batteries FYI.
That is a damn good buy...I just paid 140$ but needed it for a ride in 2 days...but thanks for the headsup, will use them next goround.
Deka brand and Big Crank brand batteries are one and the same. Battery Mart ships ground, and I got mine in two and a half days. If the battery lasts four years, that's as good as the factory battery did, and I used a tender since day one. Also, the original battery always seemed sluggish, including on a hot start actually hesitating a second or two when engaging the starter. Sounds a lot better now, 'better than new' as the saying goes.
Another vote for the BatteryMart Big Crank AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery. I just bought one for my wife's Heritage Softail. The smaller softail battery wa only $89 shipped. Like the others said, the Touring batteries are $99 shipped, a good $40 less than the dealer for the same AGM battery.
bought the Duralast Gold/ Powersport battery from Auto Zone last week. AGM made by Deka. Cost $89 but with Auto Z0ne $15 coupon final cost was $74 plus tax .....
This replaced the HD AGM battery also made by Deka that I used for 26K miles. Starts like a champ and for that price, I'm a happy camper .... the same HD branded battery was quoted at $124.
Do you leave you bike on a tender? If so, how long? I just bought a the same battery for mine, and am curious on how to maintain it.
A few years ago on these forums, somebody posted a theory that if you soak a battery on a battery maintainer for a few days before you install it, you will get a longer life from it. I had no idea if it is a good idea or not but I have done that with the last 2 batteries I have bought for my bikes. The first one is about 5 years old now and as reliable as the day I installed it.
Also, the last 2 batteries I have purchased came from Batteries Plus. They are the Duracell batteries and are made by Deka also. They have a 2 year guarantee with no prorate for time used. If it fails after 1 year and 364 days, they replace it...period
To answer your question about how long to leave it on a tender...If my bike is in the garage, it's on a tender.
