Same here. I have an S&S 107" in my ole 5-speed and have no desire for a 6-speed. It's perfectly happy cruisin' at around 90mph - on German autobahns of course Officer.
I could never in good conscious recommend anything RevTech. Not a quality product in my mind.
I've had a few Baker 6spds and they are well worth what you pay for them. $2800 more or less for a polished version. You have gear choices and you can even get a neutral on the bottom version, meaning neutral is all the way down then your gears are 6 up. Great if you plan to do a little drag racing as there is no chance you will accidentally hit neutral shifting into second.
OK I have been following this thread and also have a 06 5 speed. What exactly will I need to change if I go to the larger front pulley set up? I seen here that a 34 tooth pulley is mentioned. Is this a Harley part, and does anyone have a part number? And will I also need a larger, longer belt to accommodate this larger front pulley?
Andrews makes the pulley #290344. Directcycle parts has it for $111.95 plus shipping (free shipping > $149), Phatperformanceparts has it for 108.95 with free shipping (free shipping >$99). I don't know if you will need a different belt for this pulley, it is possible. On the '09 and later touring models some have found they can use the stock belt with 30t & 31t front pulleys by relieving the swingarm axle passage. I don't know if this will work on the earlier models. Another option would be to use a 33t front pulley (#290334) and the 68t rear sportster pulley (40444-07), this should not require a belt change or alteration although the rear pulley may require spacing for proper alignment.

I have been following this also just wondering how a bike with the 34 tooth pulley will get off a stop light and how many RPM's will it drop at like 70-80 MPH?
I had a look around at a Harley dealership birthday party today, and saw at least a couple of Baker Trans fitted to older 5 speed bikes, and interestingly they had hydraulic clutch upgrades as well.
I would consider this if I needed a new transmission, but would stay 5 speed with a hydraulic clutch.
I very rarely do more than 60mph, and generally cruise at 55mph, which is perfect for 5th.
It's funny how views differ on the subject of gearing. On my TC88 Dyna 5-speed I changed the compensator from 25T to 21T, to wake the darned thing up. It was great - just as a Harley should be, with wonderful top-gear roll-on acceleration and was fine up to 90mph or so. Happy as Larry at around 4,500rpm, well above all its silly mid-range vibration. Of course ear plugs are the greatest tuning aid known to mankind.....

First gear is the same a stock six speed on a late model. Some of the six speed conversions raise the first gear ratio substantially. Revtech, Jims, and Ultima all have a 2.94 first gear in the six speed overdrives. Baker, Jims, & Ultima all have a .86-.87 OD gearing which is much higher with stock pulleys than the stock six speeds. Many find the six gear on late models too high. Of all the offerings the SE seems to have the best ratios. I don't think your first gear in a five speed with a 34t pulley will be a problem.

Thanks for the input between you and Mike i think its a no brainer going to swap pulleys is the way to go , between $ and ease of doing its the most reasonable
Thanks

thanks for the reply what about RPM drop at highway speed?
any idea?
