Default Black Paint Question

After a long ride today thought I would give the bike a really good detailed cleaning. While cleaning away underneath the bike I noticed a small amount of road rash on the bottom side of one of my front floor board support brackets-it will be an easy fix to sand and smooth the rash away; but, will a repaint of the subject bracket with a rattle can of Universal Black (ie: Duplicolor) from the local auto parts store match the black color of the rest of the frame and brackets? The bike is Vivid Black but I just need to match the frame and undercarriage OEM black paint, not the tins.

Thx in advance-want to knock this little project out tomorrow.

You're getting WAAAAY too **** about your bike IMO. Underneath the bike on the bottom of the floorboard bracket a small amount of rash, Really?

yeah, I know...but it is such a simple and cheap fix-it's the only rash on the entire bike-or I would just let it go.

It's just bike character, shows it's being rode.

What he said....

however, I think that your solution would match just fine. I too have a vivid black bike, and have never had to do any paint repairs on the bike but if I had to, on a small hidden area, it'd be the route I'd take also...

FB supports aren't vivid black, just black powder coat - not that there's much difference though. Touch it up - only one that will notice is you

Rattle can black is normally not as black, But being under your bike doubt you would be able to tell the difference. Have you thought about the touch up paint bottles? those are black and blend well when brushed in one direction.

It wont match, but the only way anyone will notice is to put a light right on the subject. To each his own. I ride the hell out of my bike and live on 6 miles of nasty gravel road. I clean wax and maintain the bottom frame rails of my bike like I do the top. I use 3M paint protection film on the lower frame rails and on the front edge of the floor board brackets and change it every two years or so. It wont stop floor board scrapes but it keeps the stones and road crap from chipping paint leading to rust and a bad look. Frame rails on my 2010 look like they did when I bought it and I ride those roads daily. Just because you ride the hell out of a bike doesn't mean it has to look like ****! Just my .02!

I'd just touch it up with rattle-can paint to protect against rust. But if you ride hard it's not gonna last. I'm scrape mine all the time from leaning too hard. I still haven't learned to stop cornering like I'm on my Buell
