Just did my first 5k oil change. Switched to Amsoil in all three, because I couldn't get a hold of redline for the tranny. See how it goes and maybe try Mobil 1 on the next change.

I've ran it for years, and run a whole legion of others.

I first started my foyer into full synthetics with Amsoil 25w50 V twin in all 3 holes, didn't care for how the primary was acting, so on one of their national distributors recommendation, I switched to Amsoil ATF for the primary... good for the clutches, but I'm not convinced it was good for the compensator or chain, so I started my quest for a good "primary fluid".

Transmission was louder than I like, so I switched to Amsoil Severe Gear 75w110 5 or 6 years ago, and like it.

There are MANY distributors, if a man looks, that sell it for under $10 a quart, I used to pay $100 a case shipped, but that guy stopped sponsoring my "other" forum, so I stopped buying from him. Yes, to me, the sponsors that pay so we can come here, or there, and argue for free mean something to me.

What I currently run...

Engine: Amsoil 20w50 VTwin (But I'm considering changing, because I know there are others out there, and a good friend of mine does religious UOAs, and has shared numerous results with me, there are better synthetics out there)

Transmission: Amsoil SevereGear 75w110. I have zero issues with this product.

Primary: Redline Synthetic Primary Fluid. This is, by far, my favorite. I've run about everything you can think of in the primary, from HD20w50 to Syn3 to Amsoil 20w50 to Amsoil ATF to Drag Specialties Primary Fluid to HD Formula+....
.....and was never satisfied until I put the Redline in. For me, the shifting is perfect, and neutral is easy to find with the bike running, with the bike off, while coming to a stop, from 1st and from 2nd, and while accelerating, since I started using it, I have never went from 1st to N accidentally. I'm not a gear stomper, and before I switched, I used to catch N on occasion.

So basically, your dime, your ride... but my thoughts are here. You have to figure the best route for you. If money is no object, buy what you feel is the BEST.

I'm still on the quest for engine oil, I may try Mobil1 20w50 VTwin next time, as my Amsoil stock is depleted. Or I may try the Redline product, I was that impressed by their Primary Fluid... or maybe they are a one trick pony.

I'm not dis-satisfied with Amsoil SevereGear 75w110 in my transmission, but again may consider Redline with ShockProof next go.

If it sounds like I've given a bit of conflicting information, I probably have...

...I've been riding on the street for 29 years, and still can't decide what is best for me.

After I put Amsoil in my MC I fathered four kids in 6 months and could drink a half gallon of Wild Turkey and never **** once. My hair, which had started to thin on the top immediately started to come back completely, just like Bosely. I no longer needed my eyeglasses to read and I threw the Viagra in the trashcan. Jesus, this stuff is really good. My lifters did start to rattle though and my crank developed an annoying slop and vibration at about 1200 rpm. Small price to pay I guess.

any doubt. ask local shops, whether dealership or Indy, about engine tear downs after about 60,000 miles which is easier to clean up an amsoil or HD full synthetic?

I've used Amsoil off and on. Nothing wrong with it. But I've not noticed any difference between it and any other brand name 20W-50 to be honest. Amsoil is the hardest to find and definitely isn't cheaper, so I don't bother with it anymore.

Valvoline VR1 dino or synth is what has been run in this motor for the past 3 years. Lately it's been Valvoline 4T Synth M/C oil and it's been as good as anything else I've tried.

Any name brand 20W-50 works just fine is the reality of it. Change it ever 3k or 5k depending on your riding conditions and it'll run forever.

This motor is bone-stock and all original, just a Stage I is all I've done to it. Right now as I type this it sits at 111,190 miles and still going strong...

Hogilac....where u been? Haven't seen you 'round lately! Man, go to both shops down the street from you and just have a conversation with them. They wont push Amsoil---but will just give you their independent opinion. I'm still running regular 'ol oil......but I'm switching to Mobil 1....not because I don't like Amsoil and not because I think Mobil is better....but if its good enuf for my Bimmer...it's good enuf for my Harley.

U have my number...text me if u need to

I tried Amsoil once & will Not use it ever again in my motor! Last year I had the 10K service done. The Amsoil had about 2800 hard miles on it. ( A few traffic Jams) At this mileage I noticed a rather noisy engine. Seems the viscosity went south quickly. After a oil change engine is completely silent with Mobil-1 20W-50 V-Twin. I have 3 quarts left of Amsoil & have demoted it to Top Off Oil when needed. That's my experience with Amsoil.
