Well as you know I have been on here complaining about my Wobble King. I went through everything on the bike for a third time. Harley has had the bike twice and every one says the bike is Normal and it just wobbles by nature. Well that doesn't cut it for me.
I have been told to watch the tire pressure like a hawk, add a rear engine Heim joint brace, add stabo bushing or glide pro, Change the tires from the Dunlops, Change the Shocks to progressive or watch the air pressure in stock shocks like crazy, bla bla bla..
Well I have had enough. I don't want a bike that everything has to be reengineered and a ton of money put into or it will wobble down the road like a loose flat tire. If the bike has to be everything perfect to not wobble then it is to on the edge of a junk. What happens if you ride to the Rockies and you don't check your tire pressure when its cold, will you die?? Will the bike wobble because of the elevation and cold changing tire and shock pressure? that is to touchy. I have a girlfriend that is already to touchy, don't need a bike that is the same.
So long story longer, I just got a Fatboy. Took the same sweeper that screws with my Road King at 70 MPH last night and the bike just leaned in and did what I asked. NO WOBBLING.
Yes the Fatboy is a little harsh on the road with the suspension, I do see that now after being on a FLH but man just the fact that the Wobble is gone I don't care. I will take a little harsh ride and a little vibration any day as long as the bike does what I ask it to do.
Im sure I will hear a ton of negative posts back but Im sorry the wobble is unacceptable to me in every way. There is NO reason to pay that much money for a bike and then still have to put more money in to redo what Harley didn't and all for a smooth ride??? It aint worth it. Plus my Fatboy was 5 grand cheaper than the King and Im more happy.
It amazes me that I company that has been building motorcycles for so long is still putting out bikes with issues. I bought a 2000 RK as my first HD and I have been wanting to buy a new bike, but after hearing issues on new bikes like "my bike is dead and won't start", I think I will keep my 2000. I don't see myself spending $25k on headaches!
While I was at Harley yesterday I looked at the new CVO Street Glide. $45,000... wow.. Are they crazy? That is the price of a new Chevy truck. and then what if it has a no start or a wobble??
He's talking about a used 06, Warbird.....I don't think you will see too many complaints on here about new 'Kings.....my 2010 is still great. I've only got 20k (not my idea...I just cant seem to slow down at work and get more rides in!), but I have zero real complaints.
I was in my dealership the other day and mentioned the wobble. The owner looked at me and said, "You've had your new Road King wobble?" (mines a 2014) I said, no, but I've been reading up on it. I was made aware that there was a significant change to the frames of the touring line up. Changes were beef up the tubing and gussets. I've had mine cranked up pretty good around some sweepers and it seems to be fairly trust worthy. Me on the other hand, not so much! I am relatively new to the road and found that when leaned over in a turn, if your eyes catch something visually appealing on the outside of the turn and your head follows it as it passes by....The bike stands up on its own and quits turning..."Focus, Focus, Focus..."
Hey, I'm glad to hear you've found a bike that pleases you! No experience, but I have heard there are ways to make the ride more supple, and to reduce the vibration on the soft tails.
Oh well I've heard about the wobble on a lot of bike they must be jacked up some how I just get on mine & go down the road happy go lucky.
Have a Good Trip!
