My hog has a loose shift lever on the shift shaft. It's time to replace the lever or the shaft but I don't have the right service information to remove either. Alls I have is the 1984 - 1990 FLT/FXR models Service Manual which does not mention the shift shaft. Is there another manual I can buy to repair my Hog? I love working on my Hog. Any ideas?
Mike, Thank you, I have checked 7.3, but my problem is that the shifter arm is loose on the shifter shaft. THe bolt is tight and the lever is still loose on the shaft. I believe I have to move the shaft a little to replace the lever.
Mike, i'll try EVO. Sounds like I need more help. I have automotive transmission experience and when I work on one, there is a manual which leads Techs. through the unknown. I was hoping there might be one for my Harley.
Chip, now your getting closer. I bought the lever from Harley, but when I loosened it to remove it, the lever won't clear from the case. It looks like I have to move the shaft a little.
first try a grade 8 bolt and tighten the snot out of it(if its already worn u got nothing to loose) if its been loose for a while the knurl is worn,u may have to replace the shaft as well. there is another option that will save from pulling the primary BETTERLEVR.COM.
