Default 1998-2008 Grab Bar//License Plate Hoop delete. Old Topic revisited

OK. This may get long. Sorry. But there will be some pictures.

On the 1998-2008 Touring Models, there has always been a group that has wanted to get rid of that 'Hoop' above the Rear Fender that the License Plate mounts to.
I've done it on 5 different bikes over the years...specifically so I could relocate the license plate to a spot, and in a way, that I sort of consider my 'signature' custom method.

Typically, I take an angle grinder to the 'Hoop' and retain the mounting portion for holding the Rear Fender Struts to the Frame, while using the 'Hoop' pipe for my License Plate relocation solution.
The problem with this is: The chrome Frame Covers look all janky and 'unfinished' because the 'Hoop' is missing.
There are Grab Bar Eliminator products available on Amazon & eBay at very reasonable cost (like $15 USD) but they don't really solve the overall problem.

On my first build, I was able to find a bracket that allowed me to mount a Krommet ( https://a.co/d/4NRZvPp ) to fill-in the gap that was left in the upper chrome Frame Cover. But - I've never been able to find another bracket of that variety.

As I have been kicking around ideas for my current 2004 Ultra Classic project, I have revisited this topic.

This time around, I used a company called Send Cut Send ( www.sendcutsend.com ) to laser-cut brackets to my personal specifications.
And it was surprisingly inexpensive.

I used Adobe Illustrator to create a 2D rendering of the bracket I wanted....including properly sized bolt holes and a 'bend line' at the necessary location.
The resulting File (it's a .AI Filetype) was uploaded to Send Cut Send - and I selected Series 304 Stainless Steel in a 0.100" (2.5mm) thickness.
I opted for their 'bending service', and had a bracket bent to 90-degrees UP, and another bent to 90-degrees DOWN to accommodate the differences between Left & Right sides of the Rear Fender.

I ordered two (2) of each bracket - so that I could also update the installation on my bro-in-law's Road King - and received a multi qty discount. So, using an online Promo Code, I ended-up spending $21 per set/pair of brackets.
The custom brackets were delivered to my door within 4 business days.

When installing, I reused one of the Factory/OEM bolts...and picked-up Stainless Steel Bolts (5/16*18x1") and Nylock Nuts from a local hardware store (QTY 6 of each) for about $7 USD total.

Installation of both brackets took about 20-minutes.

Here are some pictures of all the nonsense I'm talking about.

After install. Throttle-side.

Before. Prior to installing bracket and Krommet.

Brackets & Krommets installed. Both sides of Fender.

Brackets. As delivered from www.sendcutsend.com

After install. Throttle-side.

Before. With License Plate relocation.

There are plenty of free sites and programs that would convert your .A1 file to .jpg. You could do that and not have to monitor your email for replies to this thread.

.

Totally.

A .JPG file is not usable on Send Cut Send. They require an AutoCAD/mechanical drawing File.

I wasn’t expecting a ton of responses from people wanting the Image. 🙂
it’s a pretty specific group that would use it.

No offense, but the quick detach hardware is less attractive than the license plate bar!

I guess I'm in the other camp. I like the license plate bar, but relocate the tags to under the tail light. Maybe a nice chrome laser cut lettering could go in its place. But it looks like you're already done.

I just tack welded 1/4 nuts on to some washers, then tack welded them in place. Then installed the krommets.
