Default UPs AND DOWNs

Yesterday started out great. Rode to coffee with my old, degenerate, friends. Vesta rode with and met up with her girlfriends. About 11a we rode 50 miles to Acton for breakfast on the patio at 49ers Café. Rode home in t-shirts.

Then got in and found the house wasn't cool, AC not working, no power getting to the outside compressor. Called the Electrician that installed the new panel, won't be out until Tuesday. Went into the house and noticed no light in the dining room. Checked the outlet, no power. Worked yesterday. Pulled off the cover plate and started removing the socket.... ZZAAAaaap. The aluminum romex toasted. Good thing the electrician is coming out Tuesday. So much for the lows.

Rode to Grandson's pre-school. He goes 2 days a week to get a little peer contact. They were having a 'graduation' ceremony. Almost got teary eyed with 7 little kids singing "The wheels on the bus go round and round.

SO, high point, low point, and ending on another high. I can hardly wait for the electrician on Tuesday so I can spend a ton of dough

Steve, didn't they inspect the house before you purchased it ? Or was the aluminum romex legal then?
If they missed that it might not be so expensive. Just sayn'.

We bought this house in 1973, Aluminum wiring was very legal. Even used it in the streets to feed the houses. This is the first time we have had any problems in 40+ years.... sure hope it isn't a sign of the future. The house was plumbed with galvanized pipe then. About 15 years ago we re-piped with Copper after the leaking started. Damn, isn't home ownership fun.
